Frontline Folkestone.

Workshop length: 1-2 hours

Suitable for: KS2-3

Thousands of soldiers from Britain and the British Empire passed through Folkestone on their way to the Western Front. Explore what life was like for people in Folkestone during WW1 using original source material, letters and photographs. Handle genuine artefacts from the Great War and learn about the trenches, Walter Tull, the Chinese Labour Corps, Belgian Refugees, the bombing of Tontine Street and baseball!  For the longer workshop you can take a subject specific gallery trail and create your own WW1 style postcard.

During the workshop, you can:

• Examine original documents and images.

• Handle objects from the period.

• See original footage of Folkestone during WW1.

• Dress up in replica costume.

• Create your own WW1 ‘silks’ postcard.
