Children on the Home Front.

Workshop length: 1 to 2 hours
Suitable for: KS1 – 3

Explore Folkestone and the home front, in this interactive session. Students will discover 6 bags, each one belonging to a different resident of WW2 era Folkestone. They will examine real and replica objects and documents, and can even dress up in the clothing they find inside. They will work out who the bags would have belonged to and the challenges they were facing in 1940’s Folkestone. This workshop looks at Evacuation, The Blitz, the changing roles of women, rationing and Dig for Victory. Extend the session with a junk model team challenge.

During the workshop, you can:

•Try on WW2 era costume.
• Examine original documents and images
• Handle WW2 objects
• Look in an evacuee’s suitcase.
