Join our family craft activity and make your own Roman oil lamp to take home!
The Romans used oil lamps to light their homes at night. Most Roman homes didn’t have glazed windows (glass was expensive!), and so oil lamps and candles were very important to light houses up at night. They made most of their oil lamps out of clay – like the ones found at the villa on East Wear Bay in Folkestone.
Make your own Roman oil lamp out of clay with us on Saturday the 28th of June. Our drop-in sessions run from 10:30 to 12:45 and 1:30 to 3:30. You can arrive any time during those sessions (but please give yourself enough time to do the activity). You don’t need to book!
Sessions are free, but donations are much appreciated.
