The Summer Solstice is coming up on the 21st of June! The Solstice was very important to people in the past. Throughout prehistory, people in Britain marked the movements of the sun. The sun governed the lives of these early agricultural communities. They and their animals relied on its warmth, and for helping crops to grow. Stonehenge and other elaborate monuments across the British Isles were built to align with the sun on both solstices. Across the world, different cultures celebrate the solstice in lots of different ways.
We’ll be celebrating the Summer Solstice by making sun catchers on Saturday 13 June.
Our family workshops are designed for children and young people under 13. Our drop-in sessions run between 10.30 – 12:30 & 1:30 – 3:30. There’s no need to book – but please make sure you give your family enough time to complete the activity (we recommend at least thirty minutes).
Workshops are free, but we always appreciate a donation towards materials!
