Our new exhibition, ‘Three Wars, One Soldier’, celebrates a single man from Folkestone and his service to his country. Joe Shepherd, who lived in Folkestone for over fifty years, served in three different conflicts – the First Anglo-Boer War, the First World War, and the Second World War. Joe kept his army records after he was discharged, along with a huge number of photographs. He also spoke about his service to his family. His collection gives us a rare glimpse into one man’s continuing service for his country.

In the early 20th century, many people stepped up again and again to serve their nation. ‘Three Wars, One Soldier’ tells just one of countless stories of everyday people standing up when duty called them. In this time of Remembrance, we celebrate Joe and all those who have served – and still serve – for our nation.
